Motorola Considers Selling Unit
“Motorola is in the early stage of exploring the sale of its biggest business unit as it seeks to split itself apart… The division, which makes television set-top boxes and networking gear, could fetch $4-5 billion,” the Wall Street Journal said. The biggest unit being the Home and Network Division, Motorolla has 2 other divisions; Mobile Devices and Entreprise Mobility. The company had a previous long term plan of separating the Mobile device division from the other two..
The Journal also claimed that potential buyers include private-equity firms and makers of telecommunications equipment such as Samsung Electronics Co.(South Korea) and Huawei Technologies Co. (China).
On Wednesday, Motorola shares fell 8 cents to close at $8.77.
