Apple’s iPad Threat to PC?
Apple unveiled yet another ‘toy’ in its new tablet computer, sending gadget and technology geeks into overdrive, some praising the device and others lamenting its omissions. Apple’s Ipad comes equipped with a 9.7 inch multi-touch, high-definition screen, a powerful processor, and access to Apple’s Application store in a ½ inch thick screen, it definitely provides intriguing possibilities.
Technology forecaster Paul Saffo said: “Just the fact that you have that much more real estate and processing power, it’s an invitation to use it in new environments, I think we’ll see some really interesting things happen with the iPad.”
Computer makers such as Dell, Acer and HP are scared the Ipad will be a major threat to their netbooks, which have surged in popularity over recent years. The Ipad can handle the same functions as other netbooks, and comes at a price range of $499 to around $829, while netbooks usually sell for $400 or less.
Charles Smulders of market research firm Gartner said: “People who are looking at netbooks will also take a very serious look at the iPad.”
